On & off ramps
How each receive and send uses on-ramps and off-ramps between bank money and stablecoins — without you touching crypto workflows.
On & off ramps
This page explains what's happening behind the scenes. You don't need to understand this to use Echlon — but if you're curious, here's how it works.
How regular currency — dollars, reais, pesos — moves in and out of the blockchain and why it matters for how Echlon moves your money.
What are on/off ramps?
An on-ramp converts regular currency (USD, BRL, MXN, etc.) into stablecoins on the blockchain. An off-ramp does the reverse — converting stablecoins back into local currencies.
Echlon uses on/off ramps behind the scenes every time you send or receive a payment. You interact with normal bank transfers — the blockchain handles everything in between.
How it works
On-ramp (receiving money)
- Your sender sends regular currency via local corridors (ACH — USD, PIX — BRL, SPEI — Mexico, etc.).
- The local currency is received by a licensed partner and converted to USDC (a dollar-backed stablecoin).
- USDC is deposited into your Echlon non-custodial wallet.
- Your dashboard shows your USDC balance — you can use this for Cards, Treasury, send/receive payments.
- See Receiving payments for more details.
Off-ramp (sending money)
- You initiate a payment from your dashboard.
- USDC moves from your wallet to the off-ramp partner.
- The partner converts USDC to the destination currency at the quoted FX rate.
- Local currency is deposited into the recipient's bank account.
- See Sending payments for more details.
For more details on fees, see Fees & limits.
Why stablecoins for the infrastructure?
- Speed — transactions settle on-chain in seconds, compared to 2–5 days through traditional international wire transfers. See Settlement & conversion.
- Cost — Clear, upfront pricing: you see Echlon’s fees before you confirm. Depending on the corridor and payment rail, partner or network charges may also apply, and these are reflected in the quote.
- Transparency — Every transaction has a verifiable record, so there's nothing hidden about how your money moves.
Stablecoin partners
Echlon uses USDC (issued by Circle) as its primary settlement stablecoin. USDC is fully backed by US dollar cash reserves and US Treasuries, audited monthly by an independent firm. See Blockchain & stablecoins for details on reserve backing and risks.
Do I need to manage stablecoins myself?
No. On/off ramp conversion happens automatically. You send and receive in local currencies. The blockchain layer runs entirely in the background — you'll never need to interact with it unless you want to.
