Yield — DeFi
How Echlon's Treasury product generates yield on your unused funds — the strategies, the risks, and the safeguards.
What is DeFi?
Decentralized Finance (DeFi) refers to financial services — like lending and borrowing — that run on blockchain networks using automated programs called smart contracts, instead of traditional banks. Rates are set by supply and demand, and transactions execute automatically without human intermediaries. This is the technology Echlon uses to generate yield in Treasury.
How Treasury products work
When you deposit into Treasury from the Treasury page, your funds are allocated to configured DeFi strategies. These strategies may earn yield by:
- Lending — Supplying funds to borrowers who pay interest.
- Liquidity provision — Supplying funds to trading platforms that pay fees in return for making their markets more efficient. Echlon uses only stable currency pairs to limit exposure to price swings.
- Automated strategies — Programs that automatically move funds between protocols to find the best available yield at any given time.
Current strategy: Echlon Optimized USDC (Elemental × Kamino)
Treasury currently uses a USDC lending vault managed by Elemental that allocates liquidity across Kamino's lending markets. The strategy dynamically sizes positions to seek efficient returns and avoid yield compression. Deposits are intended to remain in USDC.
Two yield tiers
| Tier | Strategy | Risk level |
|---|---|---|
| Conservative Treasury | USDC lending strategies designed for lower volatility | Conservative |
| Higher Yield | Diversified lending + liquidity provision | Moderate |
Risk factors
- Smart contract risk — Even audited smart contracts can contain bugs or behave unexpectedly, which could lead to loss of funds. Audits do not eliminate risk.
- Liquidity risk — In extreme market conditions, withdrawals from a protocol may be delayed.
- Stablecoin depeg risk — If USDC were to lose its dollar peg, the value of your deposit would be affected. See Blockchain & stablecoins.
- No deposit insurance — Checking and Treasury balances are not FDIC-insured bank deposits and are not covered by any government deposit guarantee.
Safeguards
- Protocol review — Strategy providers and available audit materials are reviewed before a strategy is configured.
- Strategy monitoring — Allocations and protocol conditions may be monitored and adjusted, but concentration can vary and losses remain possible.
- Redemption requests — You can request a redemption at any time. In normal conditions, requests are processed quickly, but timing is not guaranteed and delays are possible during abnormal market or protocol conditions.
Yield rates
Rates are variable and depend on market conditions. They are not guaranteed and will fluctuate over time. Current rates are displayed in your Treasury dashboard. Past performance does not guarantee future returns.
